A Jyotirlinga or Jyotirlingam is sacred entity associated with the Supreme Lord Shiva. In Sanskrit, the ancient language of Hindus, Jyoti means divine light or radiance. Linga is a mark of Almighty Shiva. Therefore Jyotir lingam represents the Divine light or Radiance of Almighty Shiva. There are twelve traditional Jyotirlinga shrines in India.
