The brief history of Mahakaleshwar temple is as follows
- Years : 4th-6th BC: Puranas mention that the temple came into existence during this prehistoric period
- Years : In Eleventh century AD: During the Paramara period, a Gazanavide commander invaded Malwa, looted and destroyed many temples including this temple. Soon after the Paramaras restored the temple
- Years : 4th-5th decade of Eighteen century AD: In the Fourth decade of the eighteen century AD the Maratha regime was established and the temple was rebuilt by a rich divan of Ranoji, Sukhatanakar Ramachandra Baba Shenvi.
