Archaelogical findings reveal at least 6 times destruction of the temple and rebuilding until the present
- In 1025 CE the temple was destroyed by Mahumud Ghazini. Following which the temple was rebuilt immediately by King Bhima of Gujarat and King Bhoja of Malwa.
- Again in 1300 CE the temple was destroyed again by Alaf Khan. It was rebuilt again by King Mahipala of the Chudasama dynasty.
- Again attacked in the year 1390, 1490, 1530 and finally in 1701 by Aurangazeb. The temple was rebuilt each time it was destroyed.
- The last time it was built during independence in 1947 under the initiative of the deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
