Mahakaleshwar temple is located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The uniqueness of the Jyotilinga here is that it is believed to to be born from itself deriving its own divine powers as compared to other Jyotilingas.
The temple area is spread over 3 and half acres of land. The three storied temple is an architectural splendour with the Makaleshwar linga on the lowest floor, Omkareshwar on the second floor and Nagachandreshwar linga on the third floor, which is open for public only on the Nagapanchami day.
Small images of Ganesh, Kartikeya and Parvati adorn the inner sanctorum known as garbhagrha. On the southern side of the main temple are many small temples built by the nobles of the Maratha community.
