Somnath temple is famous as one of the twelve Jyotirlinga shrines in India. This temple is located in the state of Gujarat along the west coast of India. Situated at Prabhas Pathan, about 6 kms from Veraval in Junagadh, Saurashtra, this ancient shrine is the most revered pilgrimage centre in India.
The temple was destroyed several times during the early centuries, but was rebuilt every time. This temple rich in traditions and culture, has one of the finest architecture with most intricate carvings. It is known that in ancient times the temple interior was adorned with precious jewels and gemstones, however these were plundered time and again by the invaders and attackers.
