Kashi Vishwanath Temple has most religious importance for the worship in the Hindu religion. It is said that many of the great Hindu saints Adi Sankaracharya, Goswami Tulsidas, Ramakrishna Paramhansa, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, Swami Vivekananda, Gurunanak, visited Varanasi to have a darshan of the holy Ganga and the Jyotirlinga.
The temple has been rebuilt many times and it was plundered and demolished by Mughals time and again. The present structure was built way back in 1780 by the late Maharani Ahilya Holkar of Indore.
